OUR PROGRAM

Our Academic Mentoring Program is designed for children and youth, ages 8 to 18 years old, who may have academic challenges, behavior issues, emotional trauma, and/or may have a parent who is incarcerated.

This program matches children with an enthusiastic volunteer mentor who serves as a role model for students engaged in the learning process. Our academic mentors provide tutoring services as well as serve as a counselor and confidant to the student and ensure the student takes advantage of all resources that are available to help with the learning process. We also provide life skills classes and a volunteer community mentor who will meet with the youth.

The Academic Mentoring Program

targets, but not limited to, foster children with

  • Academic issues
  • Behavior issues
  • Emotional trauma
  • One or more incarcerated parents

The Academic Mentoring (Tutoring?) Program

goals are

  • To see improvement in core academic subjects
  • To see a reduction in the number of unexcused absences from school
  • To see positive changes in student behavior, anger management, self-esteem abilities, anti-social behavior, and decision-making

Summer and Winter Day Camps

are held during the traditional school breaks. Each camp provides extensive educational and social development activities for children entering the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

The Next Step Program

is a College Admission Test prep and Financial Aid Assistance program.

WHAT IS PROJECT: 2ND CHANCE?

Project: 2nd Chance is a program for youth who are first time offenders who have admitted to a minor offense and agreed to participate in the program.

Project: 2nd Chance uses the model of restorative justice diversion which encourages constructive, community-based responses to wrongdoing.

The process brings together those who caused harm, those who have been harmed, and impacted Community members to promote healing and accountability, while rebuilding relationships.

Our RJD programs are post-arrest but pre-charge, meaning that the young person who committed harm has been arrested but not yet charged with a crime.

For more information about these programs, or if you would like to ask about registering or volunteering for one, please get in touch with us.
